((Yo, this is open to as many people as want to join. Basically, it's just sort of a 'what would happen if these people met?' type role play.))
(( Just so you know, the title is Latin for 'What is truth?'))
((And guess what? Our site name is Latin for Land Unknown. Because Toast and I are creative.))
((Oh yeah.))

"Johnson speaking." said the man, sounding tired as he spoke into the old phone. "Yes" ... "Yes, I understand." ... "Alright. By next Friday, I swear." Click.
The phone made a low, almost depressing sound as it hit the reciever and parted from the man's hands. Eric Johnson, author of thriller novels that didn't exactly take off, turned from the desk back to the last chapter of his latest book that sat in the screen of the computer. It was the same as usual. What could he say? It was almost like he'd poured all of his own excitement into the words, and left himself with nothing. He saved the document, turning off the monitor and standing up. No point in trying to press any further. He'd been writing since early morning, trying to get finished before... "Oh..." started Eric, spying the time on the clock. Ten am. He had half an hour to clean up and get across town. He hurried to the dresser, never finishing his sentence. But you can bet it wouldn't have ended with 'dearie me.'

It took Eric ten minutes to hurry around his dirty one-room apartment and get ready. This consisted of throwing on jeans and a tan shirt, and pulling his long gray-blond hair into a ponytail. No time to shave. He pushed glasses over his pale blue eyes, grabbing his keys and wallet before leaving.

Eric ran down the sidewalk of the dingy city neighborhood, past gated yards and old cars to the bus stop, slowing as he reached the sign. He didn't attract much attention. In fact, Eric was very much that type of person. He wasn't too overweight, but neither was he fit. He might have been fairly good-looking, but fatigue and depression etched the lines on the Thirty-six year old's face, leaving him looking haggard. Add in his now silent personality, and the man was a walking signpost.

He flashed a buss pass attached to his keys as he stepped on the first bus, walking to the back and riding to the second to last stop. "Thanks." he said, getting off. He looked left to right at the larger houses as he walked, sighing. He attracted more attention here than he wanted.

Eric checked his watch as he stood outside the gate of a two-story beige house. Eleven. Oh boy. He cautiously pushed the gate open, walking up the stone steps, and was about to knock on the door, when it opened on it's own. "Eric." said the dark-haired woman in front of him. Her arms were crossed, and her gaze pierced into Eric's glazed look. "Jessica..." "Do you realize how much Talia wanted to wait for you?" Jessica stepped outside, closing the door behind her.

"All you had to do was get her by ten-thirty and take her to soccer, then bring her back at one! That's it! Why can't you even manage that? Matt had to take her!" she demanded, in the tone of someone t the end of her rope. Eric was silent, which drove Jessica even more nuts. "Why, Eric? Why can't you do it for her, at least? Matt and I have treated her like our own daughter! And trust me, this is not for you! She is the daughter of my sister, and I care about her. Do you?" Eric blinked slowly. "Of course." he said quietly. "More than anyone." "Then why can't you act on that?! Honestly, this makes me wonder what Shaina saw in you!" Eric looked down, glare on his glasses obscuring his eyes from sight. "...I wonder, too." he said, looking up. His voice was pleading now, and his face full of emotion for the first time that day. "But I'm sorry. The bus took too long. Please, can I at least take her to school on Mon-" "Get out. Just get out!" said Jessica suddenly, her voice raised. "I need to do what's best for your daughter, and I'm beginning to think you're not in her best interest." she turned, walking inside and slamming the door behind her.

Eric walked slowly out the gate and down the road a bit before sitting on the curb, head in his hands. What was he to do? Shaina's death had stolen all but Talia from him. What would he do if he lost her, too?
